Crank it up!

Had time over the holiday's to listen to some music, old and new. Used to be a big part of my life, but lately other things have taken priority and music has had to take a back seat. I was listening to some new CD's that Santa brought my 18 year old son for Xmas and realized this subject might make a good post for the forums and/or blogs.

At the risk of dating myself my interest goes a way back. Likely it all started back in the 60's when my Grandmother (bless her heart) took me and my little brother to see the BEATLES at RFK Stadium in Wash, D.C. We were sitting three rows back behind the Washington Senator's dug out, a white limo pulled up to the stage out in the center of the baseball field, no one got out, ten minutes still no one gets out, then the announcer comes on saying, "Washington D.C., welcome the Beatles" -- then out from beneath the dug out -- twenty feet in front of us -- John, Paul, George, and Ringo walk out. I was around age ten at the time so I didn't fully understand what I was in the middle of, all I recall was this wall of teenage girl flesh that came crushing down on us as they all threw themselves at the field. Maybe that's where it all began... thanx grandma ;)

Since then, looking in my scrap book, over the years I've been to 64 concerts. I was at Merry Weather Post Pavilion early 70's to see Wishbone Ash lead off for Pink Floyd in their first U.S. tour. From the Allman Bros.Band, Black Sabbath, Jethro Tull, Spirit, to Robin Trower, Styx, to Joe Satriani... too many to mention. I was thinking that our network here would be a great place to share stories and opinions on music. Old music for the ancients, and the new stuff for the younglings. I suggest this only for selfish reasons -- I want more music, and I figure that a place where we can share experience's as well as recommended selections might be helpful to everyone. Can't get enough good music.

I'll take the first plunge and offer up three that I've been enjoying the past few daze. Let's not suggest the complete CD/album here, but just the best song/s. Can't say how many albums I've bought just to get that one piece. So, let's keep the suggestions to selections you find special. Where the combination of guitar work, rhythm, and lyrics says that every note is in the right place. We won't all agree on what's special, but my hope is that in sharing our views on some of the music out there we can all find something exceptional that we haven't heard before. I don't hear exceptional stuff too often and when I do, I like to share - hope you do too.

I won't speak for anyone else, but here's the kinda sound I'm looking for... crank it up!

ARTIST: Alter Bridge SELECTION: Rise Today
ARTIST: Alter Bridge SELECTION: Brand New Start
ARTIST: Audioslave  SELECTION: Shape of Things to Come

One final note... let's NOT make this about music file sharing. I've got over 400+ plastic, 200+ CD's, and 150+ gig of MP3's -- all bought and paid for. Happy to see a feature like iTunes come around so that we can finally buy individual songs, and for only $1. Wish they had something like that back in the day.

Enjoy...
